Use the Internet to research a famous figure.
Complete a research sheet on this person.
Write a 7 sentence paragraph about his famous
figure.
Create an original portrait of his famous
figure.
Materials/

List of famous people, research sheet,
biographies of famous people, pictures of famous people, encyclopedias and
other reference books, art materials

Procedures:
1. Print list of Famous Figures. Have students choose the person s/he wants to
research.
2. Give
each student a Research Sheet. This will
provide them with a place to record their research.
3. Go
to computer lab or library to research using the Alabama Virtual Library. Schedule 2 30 minute sessions. Have the
students use their Research Sheet to collect information on their Famous
Figure.
4.
After Internet research is completed, debrief students in classroom by
asking questions like:

Who decides who is famous?
▪
Should kids have to learn about this
person?
5. Have
students use their Research Sheets to create a 7 sentence paragraph about their
Famous Figure.
6.
Allow students time to either copy or type a rough draft of their
paper. Pair students
for revising/editing.
7. Give
students art materials to create a portrait of their Famous Figure. They may use a printed picture of their
person and embellish it with collage materials, markers, or crayons.
8. Have
students word process their papers.
Print the papers and publish them and the Famous Figure’s portrait on a
bulletin board.
