Title of Activity:Poetry with Pizzazz

Class or Grade Level:3-5

Subject:Language Arts

Time Allotment: 1 hour

Objectives:The student will:

use templates to write 2 poems.

create 2 published poems using MS Word.

Materials/ Resources:Poem template handout, computer lab with MS Word

Standards: Technology COS 3-5 #10

Procedures:

1.The teacher distributes the poem template.

2.The student creates 2 poems by using the poem templates.

3.The student uses MS Word to type the poems.

4.The student uses MS Word to change font size and type, line spacing, and alignment.

5.The student adds clip art that relates to the poems by using Insert, Picture, Clip Art.

6.Students print poems.

7.Teacher assembles class poems into a book to share with others.

Assessment: Teacher grades the poems on the following: 

Cinquain:5 lines that follow pattern10 points

Creative use of font, alignment, and spacing10 points

Uses an appropriate picture5 points

Diamante:7 lines that follow pattern14 points

Creative use of font, alignment, and spacing10 points

Uses 2 appropriate pictures6 points
