What
is a web quest?
A
web quest is an online activity created by Bernie Dodge of San Diego State
University in 1995. He designed the web quest concept to engage students
in higher order thinking skills through the use of the Internet and other
computer technology.
A web quest consists of 6 main parts:
Introduction--A
paragraph that sets the scene and gives students a problem to be solved.
Task--The
job(s) the students must perform to complete the web quest.
Process--The
step-by-step instructions on how to accomplish the job set forth in the
task.
Resources--A
predetermined list of Internet and non-Internet sources that the teacher
has chosen that will be helpful in completing the task.
Evaluation--The
grading procedure for the web quest, usually in the form of a rubric or
checklist.
Conclusion--A
paragraph that describes the impact the completion of the task had on the
problem being solved.
Other sections may include:
Roles--A page that explains the role of each group member as they complete the task.
Credits--A page that lists the references that were used in creating the web quest including credits for clip art and graphics used on the web page.
Teacher Notes--A page that gives the standards and/or benchmarks achieved by the completion of the web quest as well as tips for classroom management during the web quest.
