Advanced PowerPoint Make-and-Take—In this workshop, teachers will bring a lesson plan and create a PowerPoint presentation to use with their class.  Teachers will learn how to add new multimedia elements to their presentations including sound, video, and hyperlinks. This workshop is a 3-hour session. This workshop is for advanced PowerPoint users.  

 

Alabama Virtual Library—This program will go over the components of the Alabama Virtual Library.  Participants will learn how to use the Alabama Virtual Library to do professional research.  Also, teachers will get to explore the databases and take notes on how they can use it in a lesson with their students. This session can be scheduled for 1, 2, or 3 hours. This session is for all levels of technology expertise.

 

ALEX: Alabama Learning Exchange—This program will show teachers the components of the ALEX site including how to access courses of study, lesson plans, web resources, forums and listservs, and other education information.  This session is a 1 hour workshop. This session is for all levels of technology expertise.

 

**ALEX: Posting Lesson Plans—This program will show teachers how to create and upload their own lesson plans to the ALEX database.  All lessons will be aligned with the state courses of study.  This program requires that teachers have an ALEX login PRIOR to the workshop. This session can be either 3 or 6 hours.  This is for intermediate to advanced users.

 

**Copyright and Fair Use—This informative program explains the copyright and fair use laws to teachers.  In this program, teachers will have the opportunity to discuss what is and what is not fair use. The format will be a PowerPoint presentation followed by small group work on copyright and fair use scenarios.  This program is a 1 hour session. This session is for all levels of technology expertise.

 

Designing Technology Lesson Plans—This program will help teachers find online resources to design interesting lesson plans for their students.  We will be using the Alabama State Department of Education Technology Course of Study to integrate technology into other subject areas.  This workshop works best when scheduled for 2 or 3 hours of instruction. This session is for beginners


Doin’ it Digitally: Photography in the 21st Century—This program demonstrates how to use a digital camera as well as lesson plans that use digital images.  They will take pictures and then use them in a Word document and a PowerPoint presentation.  This program requires that the school owns at least one digital camera.  This is a 1 or 2 hour session. This session is for beginners.

 

**Exciting Excel This workshop will showcase lessons teachers can do with students that use the Excel spreadsheet.  These lessons will include charts, graphs, timelines, math worksheets, science lab worksheets, and more.  This session is either 2 or 3 hours.  This workshop is for teachers who are beginners in Excel.

 

**Graphics for Teachers—This workshop will show teachers online sites where they can get free images to use in class presentations and publications.  Teachers will create a personal online hotlist of the sites they find with photos, clip art, and other graphics that they can use in their classroom.  This session will also include ideas for extending the use of digital photography including online albums and other free sites.  This is a 2 or 3 hour session.  This session is for intermediate computer users.

 

**Intermediate PowerPoint Make and Take—Teachers will bring a lesson plan to create a PowerPoint presentation to use with their class.  Teachers will learn how to find images on the Internet to insert into their presentations.  This workshop is a 3 hour session.  This workshop is for teachers who have attended a 2 day Technology in Motion training and are intermediate PowerPoint users.

                           

**Pizzazz with Pictures! Illustrated Handouts for the Classroom—This program will show teachers how to create illustrated handouts using Microsoft Word.  Participants will learn to use auto-shapes, word art, bullets, and tables to jazz up their class handouts as well as how to import clip art from Microsoft Clip Gallery and Microsoft Design Gallery Live. Teachers will also use other online sources to gather images.  This is a 1 or 2 hour workshop. Teachers in this workshop should have a basic knowledge of Word and be intermediate computer users.   


**Publish It! Using Desktop Publishing in the Classroom—This program will introduce teachers to Microsoft Publisher, a desktop publishing program.  Teachers can create posters, calendars, greeting cards, newsletters, and brochures with this program.   This is a 2-3 hour workshop. This workshop requires that the school have multiple copies of Publisher in a lab or library setting. This program is for intermediate computer users, although no knowledge of Publisher is required. 

 

Tech Tools for Teachers—This program will take teachers on a guided tour of the best sites available on the Internet for their grade level—elementary, middle, or high school.  The tour of sites will include subject area information, online educational games and activities, rubrics, Internet research, and thematic units.  This program also includes information on the Alabama Virtual Library and the Alabama Learning Exchange as well. It is recommended for a 2 or 3 hour session. This session is for beginners.

 

Virtual Field Trips Make-and-Take-- This program provides teachers with a template for creating their own virtual field trip to use with their students.  The participants will design the VFT, create a web page for the VFT, and post it to the World Wide Web.    This workshop is a 6-hour workshop.  This can be done on a professional development day or in 2-hour sessions after school either 3 days in one week or 1 day a week for 3 consecutive weeks. This is for intermediate to advanced computer users.

 

Web Quests: The Quest is On!—This program serves as an introduction to the Internet activity, web quests.  In it, participants will learn what a web quest is, how it meets the new State of Alabama Technology Course of Study and NETS standards, how to find web quests on line, and how to modify a web quest to use in their classroom.  This workshop is designed to be a 2 or 3 hour workshop. This session is for beginners.

 

Web Quests Make-and-Take—This program provides teachers with a template for creating their own web quest to use with their students.  The participants will design the web quest, create a web page for the quest, and post it to the World Wide Web.  This workshop is a 6-hour workshop.  This can be done on a professional development day or in 2-hour sessions after school either 3 days in one week or 1 day a week for 3 consecutive weeks. This is for intermediate to advanced computer users.

 

**Writing and Technology—This program provides teachers from all grade levels and subject areas with strategies for using technology to teach writing across the curriculum.  This workshop uses the writing process to show teachers many different Internet and computer resources for improving student writing.  This workshop can be modified for any grade level—elementary, middle, or high school and can be designed to meet specific, identified needs for improving scores on the State of Alabama Direct Assessment of Writing.  This workshop is recommended for 3 or 6 hours of instruction.  This session is for all levels of technology expertise.

Please note:  I have recommended the length of each workshop that I offer.  The time frames suggested are to allow teachers more time to practice the skills with the trainer present.  Please contact me for scheduling 2 or 3 hour blocks of time during the school day.  At least one Internet connection is required for all of the workshops.
